Sundays with Jamie and Marit

It seems as though Sunday afternoons have turned into Marit and Jamie hang out time...which I love! This week we decided to take a trip to the mall...and of course came across a photobooth. Do you really think we could pass that up?Ghetto chics at Ghettowood Mall. Yeah, we can't really pull it off.
So of course, we couldn't just take the pictures and leave it at that....we had to DO SOMETHING with them. We decided that it's about time to have the summer staff over, so we turned the strip of pictures into an invitation to a Pulaski Day Party (a kind of pointless holiday Chicago celebrates). Sunday afternoons wouldn't be the same without Marit and I being crafty in some way:-) Laugh at us if you choose...but we have fun!

Happy Groundhog's Day!

Luke, Alli, and I took a trip to Woodstock, Illinois (the town where Groundhog's Day was filmed). It's a cute little town with lots of Groundhog's Day pride! It was one of the coldest days of the winter...but we toughed it out! A stop at Starbucks helped out:-)

We started our day by going to the viewing of the movie at the local theater...it was free!

The town also had a chili cookoff! There were some goooooood recipes:-) Alli and Luke accused me of voting without being completely informed because I only tried four kinds...but I was pretty confident that I chose the winner:-)

Of course I needed a shot with the groundhog!

Homeless ministry with New Community Covenant

Last weekend, Alli and I volunteered to spend the evening passing out food and warm clothing to the homeless in Logan Square (the area surrounding the Warming Center, a small food pantry run by the church). Although we may have complained about it all day until we went...I am really glad that we did it. There were about 13 of us that served that night. The night started out pretty slow...there weren't all that many people out in the areas that the group travels to but by the end of the night, we had given out all of the bags of food we had packed. Some people were just gracious to get a meal while others really wanted to talk. It was interesting what they chose to share about. Some even offered to pray for us! I'm sure I'll do it again at some point. Anyone interested in joining me??

s'mores...even when we're not camping!

Alli and I had a s'mores night a couple of weeks ago. Sunday night is always reserved for Desperate Housewives, but added a little something new for a change.I don't even think she could wait for this one to be toasted.
No worries Dad....we were taught well to take precaution with fire:-)

Feeling independent...

I was fortunate enough to have another week of vacation after I returned home from New Hampshire. I was feeling pretty independent and was really excited about having a day to myself. I took a trip downtown and had lunch with Alli and then spent the afternoon at the aquarium...by myself! Go me! I really enjoyed myself too! PLUS, there was a Kumodo Dragon exhibit and if you know me....you'd know that I couldn't miss that. Even though I was without my partner in crime, Megan....it was still interesting:-)

I know that this is blurry so if you can't read it...this is what it says. Megan....I know some people think we're crazy, but look at this!

"Deadly Spit: Many animals survive a Komodo attack only to die days later. Why? Toxic spit. Many kinds of virulent bacteria live in a Komodo's saliva, capable of producing a deadly infection-not to mention some of the worst breath in the animal kingdom!"
